Thomas A. “Tom” Gelb of Conover, Wis., died on Christmas Day morning, Dec. 25, 2020.

Tom was born in Chicago, Ill., on May 24, 1935. (He always said he had no control over that!)

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Toni Gelb; his son, Matthew Gelb of Green Bay, Wis.; his daughter, Amy Gelb of Encinitas, Calif.; and six grandchildren including Ella, Megan, David, Riley, Bentley and Miles.

Tom spent most of his working life at Harley-Davidson Motor Co. in Milwaukee, Wis., retiring in 1997, as Senior Vice President of Manufacturing.

Tom was well-known for his muskie catching which he fished for in northern Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada since 1952. His largest muskie was a 51-pound, 3-ounce monster that he caught on Nov. 30, the last day of the muskie fishing season, in Vilas County, Wis., in 2006.

He authored a book named “Musky Strategy” in 2012, that was very successful and is now out of print.

His Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Eagle River, Wis., on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 1 p.m., with visitation prior from noon to 1 p.m. The Mass will be live-streamed at or can be found via the YouTube channel “swandme686” at

Instead of flowers, Tom’s wishes are that contributions may be made to Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand, Ind.
