Virginia Ann Anderson, age 95, of Eagle River, Wis., passed away on Dec. 11, 2020, in Rockwall, Texas.
A private service for immediate family only will be scheduled at a later date at the Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River.
Virginia was born on Oct. 13, 1925, in Stambaugh, Mich., to Gust and Eva (Westerberg) Anderson.
She was the devoted wife of David E. Anderson, long-time band and choral director at Northland Pines High School and piano tuner in Eagle River.
Virginia and David were married for 69 years and had five children. They lived in Eagle River until 2014, when they moved to Texas during their retirement. Her loving husband, David, and parents preceded her in death.
Virginia happily devoted her life to supporting her husband and family.
Virginia and David met in their hometown of Stambaugh, and married in 1946 after World War II ended.
The high school sweethearts subsequently moved to Appleton, Wis., where Virginia put David through college by working as an administrative assistant at AT&T.
After they moved to Eagle River in 1950, she focused on raising the children and managing the books for David’s piano tuning business.
In the late 1970s, she returned to working as a legal secretary for two local law firms until she retired.
Virginia’s greatest joy in life was children — besides raising her own five children, she enjoyed the company of her three grandchildren, took in foster children periodically, and provided childcare in retirement.
Virginia was an excellent seamstress who loved making beautiful clothes for her children, creative and exquisite Halloween costumes, and even her daughter Terri’s wedding dress.
She also was such a talented baker that many acquaintances encouraged her to consider opening her own pie shop.
Although Virginia’s devotion to her family and homemaking skills were her first passion, she selflessly helped others in need and was generous with her time and money to others in the Eagle River community.
Virginia was the beloved mother of Steven Anderson of Mesa, Ariz., Terri Schessler (husband Dave) of Eagle River, Betsy Roe (husband David) of Heath, Texas, Lori Sommerfield of Minneapolis, Minn., and Nathan Anderson of San Juan, Puerto Rico; and loving grandmother of three granddaughters, Stephanie Hill (husband Mike) of Minneapolis, and Caitlin and Caleigh Roe, both of Heath.
Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Betsy Roe, 712 Starlight Pass, Heath, Texas 75032.
In lieu of flowers, the Anderson family would prefer that donations be sent in memory of Virginia to the Vilas Food Pantry, 1013 North Railroad Street, Eagle River, WI 54521 or (715) 479-9581.
Arrangements by Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home, Eagle River. Online condolences may be expressed at

I extend my love and sympathy to the Anderson family. Your mom was very special as she treated me like one of her own kids. She taught me the fine art of packing a picnic for an outing to the beach or for an extended road trip. She always provided a safe and loving home environment for her children and their friends. I will always cherish the ear to ear smile that covered her face the last time I saw her on my visit to Texas in 2018. I am grateful for that opportunity to see Mrs Anderson that final time. Your mom meant the world to me and she will be missed. Losing your mom, especially during the holidays can feel incredibly overwhelming. I extend my love and prayers to you during this difficult time.
