Letter to the Editor:
I am so tired of the right throwing around the word socialism as if it’s an evil plot against humanity.
It is the complete opposite! Socialism is taxpayer funds being used collectively to benefit society as a whole, despite income, contribution or ability.
It supports many programs to support the people: Medicare, Social Security, public schools, military/defense, highways/roads, public libraries, fire departments, police, student loans and grants, farm subsidies, the CIA and FBI, the polio vaccine, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, museums, public parks, Veterans Affairs, the GI Bill, the Hoover Dam, bridges, the free lunch program, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, unemployment insurance, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the national weather service, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the sewer system, Medicaid, the jail/prison system, the court system, health-care 911 workers, disability insurance, town/state-run beaches, state construction, state snow removal, public street lighting and more.
What we need to fear is fascism, something that Donald Trump tried very hard to implement and given another four years, he certainly would have succeeded. He kissed up to dictators across the world for a reason!
Democratic nations are so relieved he didn’t win re-election and all Americans who value freedom should agree with them 100%.
Socialism is a good thing that everyone who isn’t a part of the 1% should support with all their heart and souls.
And one more point. Jesus was a socialist. “The meek shall inherit the Earth, spreading the good for the poor, love your neighbor, etc.”
