The Eagle River Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center, along with the Headwaters Chapter of Muskies Inc. and the Eagle River Guides Association, will host the 39th annual Eagle River Fishing Day for Kids on Thursday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Young anglers can experience the outdoors while learning the fundamentals of fishing with the area’s top fishing mentors. Activities include fishing seminars given by members of Muskies Inc. and the Eagle River Guides Association, a casting contest and, of course, fishing with an area fishing mentor. A bag lunch and door prizes are also included in the day’s activities.

Children are welcome to bring their own fishing gear and life preservers. Fishing mentors will provide gear for children who need it.

Area bait shops will provide the bait. Each child will receive a goody bag of fishing-related items.

This event is free for children between the ages of 7 and 12 years old and registration for the event is required.

“We will be able to accommodate 50 kids — therefore, we are asking adults to pre-register interested children in advance at the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce Office at 201 N. Railroad St. in Eagle River, by phone at (715) 479-6400 or via email at kim@eagleriver.org,” said Kim Emerson, executive director of the chamber.

“If there are openings available on the day of the event, we will take registrations until all 50 spots are filled.”

Registration and check-in will be held at the Vilas County Fairgrounds July 11, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Once everyone is registered, a “how to” fishing seminar will be given by the Eagle River Guides Association followed by a casting contest from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

A drawing to match children with fishing mentors for the afternoon will take place at 11:30 a.m. before mentors and children leave for their fishing adventure.

Parents must pick up their children at the Vilas County Fairgrounds once fishing activities end at 4 p.m. sharp.
