Positions are starting to fill for the 39th annual Spring Classic Muskie Tournament on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes June 8-9.

According to tournament director Scott Samuels, the classic was over 90% full last year, so two-person teams are encouraged to get their applications in as soon as possible.

Hosted by the Headwaters Chapter of Muskies Inc., the Classic is held on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes and continues to grow in popularity. Last year’s winners took home more than $14,000.

According to Samuels, what makes the Classic so popular is that it draws anglers of all levels of expertise.

“We have everything from the experienced tournament anglers, to father and daughter/son teams, couples, as well as the occasional weekend warrior. The great thing about the Classic is that everybody has a good chance of winning,” said Samuels.

To request an application, email springclassic@

All money raised by the Headwaters Chapter of Muskies Inc. goes back into the community in the way of building new and maintaining existing boat ramps and docks, fish stocking, natural resources scholarships for students, and many youth events.
