Turtle River Pursuit Cross Country Ski Race competition will be held the weekend of Feb. 9-10 in Mercer and Manitowish Waters.

The classic race will be at the MECCA Trails in Mercer Saturday, Feb. 9, and the skate ski race at the WinMan Trails in Manitowish Waters Sunday, Feb. 10.

The Turtle River Pursuit skiing competition is a combined classic and open technique skiing event for individuals and two person teams. The matchmaker program connects skiers who each prefer to classic or freestyle ski on one of the days.

The first skier across the finish line on Sunday wins the two-day race. Awards will be given for overall winners and best in each age group.

A welcome reception and skier packet pick up will be held Friday, Feb. 8, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Liberty Way Tap House in Mercer.

Saturday will kick off with day-of registration from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and packet pick up at MECCA Chalet followed by the 11K classic leg of the race at MECCA Trails from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sunday will include a packet pick up at WinMan Chalet from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. followed by the 11K freestyle leg at WinMan Trails from 9 a.m. to noon. An awards ceremony and post-race meal will follow from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The Gogebic Range Health Foundation is collaborating with the Turtle River Pursuit, providing its expertise in community engagement and fundraising for the event.

The pursuit encourages year-round community outreach bringing children, families and seniors out to the trail systems for exercise, fresh air, and instruction focused on good nutrition and healthy lifestyles.
