Planning is underway for the ninth annual Maple Syrup Fest scheduled for Saturday, April 4 in Phelps.

The event has grown from a simple bus tour of local sugar bushes in 2012, to a full day of activities and fun that attracts more than 3,500 people. In addition to the continuation of the sugar bush tours, the day includes tree-tapping demonstrations, a syrup-judging contest, arts and crafts fair, children’s activities, the Maple Café and more.

The Phelps Chamber of Commerce and Maple Syrup Fest Committee also are proud to  provide scholarships for local youths from a portion of the day’s proceeds.

The committee welcomes local businesses to consider becoming a sponsor for this growing event. Sponsors receive recognition online, during the event and through local media.

Volunteers also are needed for a variety of two- to three-hour shifts April 4. They receive a free meal as well as a discount on chamber membership dues.

Sponsors and volunteers have the chance to be part of an event that celebrates Wisconsin heritage and attracts visitors to the area during a slow travel time.
