The Phelps Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners from the recent 10th annual Maple Syrup Fest maple syrup contest.

“We had many great maple syrup entries this year, with 28 entries submitted from Wisconsin, Michigan, and even one from New York,” said Quita Sheehan, chamber president.

Entries were evaluated on density, clarity, flavor, color and containers.

The winner in the category of Grade A Golden was Pethan’s Sugar Shack of Chilton; in the Grade A Amber category, Pickerel Lake Maple Syrup of Eagle River; and in Grade A Dark, Hansen’s Sugar Shack of Marshfield.

Judges were Sean Thomas, Eric Eisenmueller and “Buckskin” Bob Black.

“The judges had a wonderful time tasting each of the unique syrups and picking out the underlying flavors,” Sheehan added.

The punch card raffle winners were Marc O’Brien of Boulder Junction, who won the Hiker Box basket; Eric Inglis of Phelps, Ski’s Sugar Shack basket; and Carl Schnakenberg of Chicago, Ill., Eagle Farm breakfast basket.

The Maple Syrup Fest raffle ticket winners were: first place, Jenni DuQuaine of Phelps, who took home a grill donated by Maple Ridge Construction; second place, Sue Getzel of Conover, $100 cash donated by Paul Stemen; and third place, Donna Suzawith of Amberg, a one-hour float therapy donated by Up North Wellness Center.
