The Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin recently held its annual awards and recognition banquet at Blackwolf Run Golf Course in Kohler where former Northland Pines golf coach Dave Roberts was honored by the association with a distinguished service award.

Roberts was a 35-year coach in the Wisconsin high school system, and along with spending time in Eagle River at Northland Pines, he also coached at Brookfield East High School.

He was honored along with Steve Hird of Madison-Edgewood, Troy Ryan of Wisconsin Dells and Mark Ryser of Eleva-Strum and Greenwood.

The association recognizes  individuals with the award who have “raised the level of awareness of junior/high school golf through their distinguished achievement and excellence.”

In order for a coach to be considered for his or her achievements, they must have officially been listed as a varsity coach.

The association’s awards committee considers a nominee’s total record of significant and long-term contributions to junior and high school golf in their school and community in determining eligibility for earning the award.

According to the association’s website nominees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and moral character. To be eligible for nomination, the committee recommends the individual has served as a varsity coach for a minimum of 15 years.

Roberts still resides in Eagle River.
