Northland Pines High School is looking for what would be their third head football coach in as many seasons following the resignation of coach Kevin Grundy last week.

Grundy coached just one varsity game for the Pines team after being hired late in the summer following the resignation of coach AJ Zayia earlier in the year.

Citing safety concerns for players and low overall numbers, Pines 2021 varsity season was canceled following week one when incoming Pines Athletic Director Josh Tilley, school district officials and the football coaching staff decided it was in the best interest of the athletes and program to forgo the remainder of the varsity schedule. The team forfeited those contests and instead played a junior varsity schedule with Grundy leading the staff and team.

Plans to return to a full varsity schedule are in place for next season when the Pines team will enter into the first year of competition in the newly formed Northwoods Conference. The 2021 league title was won by Coleman this past year as they would go on to post a 13-1 overall record, losing in the WIAA Division 7 State Championship game to Reedsville.
