The patriotic Red Hatters support area veterans.

Members of St. Germain Red Hatters met at the Community Center in St. Germain on Nov. 18 to prepare Christmas greeting cards for U.S. military veterans and those who will be going on the next Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

The St. Germain “Red-dy for Anything” chapter of the Red Hat Society was founded in the fall of 2004 when a few ladies got together to form a social group in this area. The chapter’s mission is “to have fun and enjoy being a woman with “hattitude.”

The group became an officially chartered member of the internationally known Red Hat Society on Feb. 12, 2005 with 30 members at that time. Membership has remained consistently between 25-30 members over the years.

The only rule adopted was, “There are no rules. We’re here to have fun.”

The St. Germain Red Hatters meet monthly for breakfast at varied area restaurants, plus a monthly activity that is planned by specified members. Over the years, some activities have included museum trips, shopping, a train ride, go-karting, a pirate ship, pool party, treasure hunt, golf course tour and many others. The Red Hatters enter a decorated float in the St. Germain Independence Day parade. An annual pizza party is also held.
