High school teams participating in fall sports are gearing up for the tournament season, with volleyball, boys soccer and football playoffs all starting this week.

In girls volleyball, Three Lakes received the top seed in Division 4 Regional and received a first round bye. The Bluejays will face either eighth-seeded Oneida Nation or ninth-seeded Lena this Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. Those two teams were scheduled to play on Tuesday of this week. If Three Lakes advances through Thursday, the Regional final will be played at Three Lakes this Saturday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m.  Phelps, seeded 14th, was to play third-seeded Niagara on Tuesday, but the Knights forfeited the game.

In Division 2 girls volleyball, ninth-seeded Northland Pines was scheduled to face eighth-seeded Medford on Tuesday. The winner will have a tough match against top-seeded Mosinee this Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. at Mosinee. The Sectional final will be this Thursday, Oct. 21, at the highest seeded team.

In Division 4 boys soccer, third-seeded Northland Pines will host sixth-seeded Cumberland this Thursday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m. and fourth-seeded Three Lakes-Phelps will host fifth-seeded Regis-McDonell Central Catholic Thursday, also at 4 p.m. If Pines wins, the Eagles will play either second-seeded Baldwin-Woodville or seventh-seeded Newman Catholic. If Three Lakes-Phelps wins, the Bluejays will face top-seeded Washburn-Bayfield, who received a first-round bye. The Regional final will be Saturday, Oct. 23.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) also announced its 2021 boys football 8-player tournament bracket. 

The third-seeded Three Lakes-Phelps team will play at second-seeded Laona-Wabeno this Friday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. The winner will then play either top-seeded Lena-St. Thomas Aquinas or fourth-seeded Florence Friday Oct. 29. A total of 16, 8-player teams are in the tournament field.

The WIAA also has announced its 11-man boys football tournament schedule in seven divisions. In this area in Division 5, seventh-seeded Tomahawk will travel to second-seeded Wittenberg-Birnamwood this Friday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. In Division 3, fifth-seeded Rhinelander will face fourth-seeded Baraboo and top-seeded Mosinee hosts eighth-seeded Hayward-Lac Courte Oreilles, both games to be played this Friday at 7 p.m.
