It’s less than a month until the Eagle River/Northland Pines High School ¬≠Athletic Hall of Fame Committee will induct two standout athletes, a coach and several longtime hockey managers to the hall Friday, Aug. 17.

The athletes to be inducted are Kent Gray, who played football at Pines from 1979 through 1981, and 1970 graduate Veryl Krosschell, along with baseball coach Jerry Adamovich. The three will be joined by eight members of the Zyhowski family who were hockey managers at Pines since the 1970s.

Kent William Gray played football at Northland Pines High School his freshman through junior years before transferring to Ashwaubenon High School his senior year. At Northland Pines, he became the starting varsity fullback his sophomore year. As a junior, Gray was moved to defensive nose guard and tight end. He received honorable mention in the Lumberjack Conference in 1980 and was first team all-conference in 1981 as a junior, when the Eagles won the conference championship with a 6-0 record and finished the regular season 10-0.

Veryl Krosschell, a 1970 graduate of Eagle River Union High School, was a three-sport athlete in high school. While he excelled in basketball, Krosschell also played football and baseball for the Eagles. On the basketball court, the 6-foot-5 Krosschell led the Eagles in scoring his senior year with 525 points in 16 Northern Lakes Conference games, averaging 32 points a game.

Jerry Adamovich, along with Mary Birchbee and Larry Stecker, was instrumental in getting baseball reintroduced as a high school sport at Northland Pines High School in 1988. Adamovich went on to coach the Eagles baseball team from 1988 through 1998. During that period, the Eagles won Lumberjack Conference championships in 1993, 1994 and 1997. Northland Pines also won WIAA Regional playoffs in 1994 and 1995, and was the runner-up in the Sectional finals in 1994 and 1995.

Members of the Zyhowski family will be inducted in the citation category for supporting Northland Pines hockey as managers. They include: Raymond, Eric, Steven, Alan, Joe, Karl, Nathan and Nicolas.

The hall of fame committee invites friends, classmates, teammates and family members of all inductees to the hall of fame induction ceremony set for Friday, Aug. 17, prior to the Northland Pines football game against Wittenberg-Birnamwood. The induction ceremony will start at 4:30 p.m. in the auditorium, followed by the game at 7 p.m.
