Area golfers looking for a fun golf outing in support of a local service organization might want to try the sixth annual Northwoods Share (NWS) golf fundraiser set for Sunday, Aug. 15, at Eagle River Golf Course.

Northwoods Share is a nonprofit service organization committed to sharing Christ’s love through tangible, charitable community outreach programs and activities.

The fundraising golf outing will include an 18-hole four-person scramble, challenge and contest holes, and a hole-in-one car contest sponsored by Eagle River Ford. In addition, there will be dinner, gift certificates, awards, prizes and raffle opportunities, including a gas grill donated by Jensen-Akins Hardware and Appliance of Conover.

Check-in will be held at noon, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine. The entry fee is $100 per person or $400 per foursome.

Last year’s virtual event raised $14,000. Those funds allowed NWS to continue its benevolence inter-church ministry “IC HELP,” which operates as a helping hand. Several area churches support IC HELP, which provides a single place for community members to come when they are in need of “financial power boosts.” Over 300 families received assistance with housing, transportation and medical expenses in 2020.

In addition, volunteers counsel families on their budgets, give practical advice with life’s challenges, and extend a hand of friendship and prayer. NWS also continues serving families in need who live in eastern Vilas and Oneida counties.

Other NWS offerings include free community dinners during the school year and a weekly Needs Pantry where people can receive free clothing, paper products, soap and personal care products.

“Our golf outing is the only fundraiser event we hold each year,” said NWS president Ed Brouch. “Sponsors are an essential part of the event’s success and there are numerous ways to participate as a donor, from underwriting the entire event to sponsoring just a single hole for $100.

“No matter what level of sponsorship you choose, it’s a great way to support NWS and the community as well as promote your company. People should know they also can support this event by participating as a golfer, whether as an individual or a foursome,” Brouch added. “You can also donate an item for our raffle offerings. By helping us raise money for IC HELP at this outing, you will be helping us serve families each year who are living within our community.”

Sponsorship, donation and golf registration forms are available online at Golf registration is due by this Friday, July 30.
