Get ready to run folks. The eighth annual Three Eagle Half Marathon and 5K run will be held this Saturday, Oct. 9, on the Three Eagle Trail between Eagle River and Three Lakes.
The point-to-point run on the crushed limestone trail will begin at two separate locations with a 9 a.m. race start.
“Very few races can boast of the beauty of a trail run at the end of peak fall colors, with top design work, at such a competitive price,” said organizer Jayme Wyss. “Our goal was to create a top-level race that showcased the fall beauty of the Three Eagle Trail at an affordable price. We want it to be a race that people want to be a part of and that the whole community can be proud of.”
The race will benefit the Three Eagle Trail and Three Lakes running programs.
Registration for the 5K race is $30. The cost for the half-marathon is $50 and includes a long-sleeved shirt and a half-marathon medal. The cost was $10 less prior to Sept. 1.
The top three finishers in each group along with overall winners will also receive custom awards.
To help runners gauge their time, mile markers are located at every mile. The race is chip-timed and results are provided on-site. A shuttle service will be available to runners.
For the half marathon course, participants will be shuttled to the Dairy Queen in Eagle River for the start. After 3 miles, the race will utilize Section 9 and Sundstein roads to get from the North section of the trail to the South trail. Participants will be on the paved road for about 1.5 miles where they will also encounter some small rolling hills. Due to this paved section of road, athletes should not wear spikes. Participants will also cross boardwalks and a bridge. Elevation changes are minor.
For the 5K course, participants will be shuttled to the Petroleum Museum on Wykoski Road near the start line. The course is flat, straight and follows the trail.
For those competitive runners, the course records are as follows:
• Female half marathon: Jori Galles, Marshfield, 1:23:52.8 (2020).
• Male half marathon: Tim Thornburg, Stevens Point, 1:11:20.9 (2018).
• Female 5K: Melissa Burkart, Hudson, 17:57.3 (2017).
• Male 5K: Jared Zwettler, Sugar Camp, 16:32.4 (2018).
Information and a link for registration is available at 3eaglehalf.com.
Best of luck to all the runners on the beautiful Three Eagle Trail!
