Three Lakes has always been regarded as a solid sports school, with multiple teams and individuals winning conference championships and advancing to Regional and Sectional finals, and State tournaments over the years.
Some of those outstanding players, teams and coaches will soon get the recognition they deserve.
The Three Lakes Coaches Association has announced that the third annual Three Lakes Athletic Hall of Fame banquet recognizing four individuals and a team will be held Friday, July 23, 2021.
Members of the association said the Three Lakes Hall of Fame is an effort to honor Three Lakes people who have made an impact in the school district as student athletes, coaches or fans.
The 2021 Three Lakes Hall of Fame inductees include individuals Ken Huebner, Steve Rappley, Tom Ainsworth and Nancy (Rhode) Kortenhof, and 1998 Three Lakes boys basketball team. More information on these individuals and team will be released at a later date.
Due to COVID-19 safety precautions in 2020, the third annual Hall of Fame Banquet — and the induction of this new class of members — was postponed. But the third hall of fame class will get their recognition this summer.
“We’re continuing to recognize past athletes for their contributions to athletics, not only here in Three Lakes, but beyond,” said Three Lakes Junior and High School Athletic Director Charlie Volk.
The banquet will be held at the Reiter Center, located at 1858 S. Michigan St., in Three Lakes, beginning with a social hour from 5 to 6 p.m. with dinner to follow.
Jim Weiberg, former Three Lakes teacher and basketball coach, will be the guest speaker.
The public is invited to attend the banquet. Because seating is limited, the association recommends tickets be purchased in advance. Tickets are $35, and can be purchased through the high school office or by contacting Athletic Director Charlie Volk at cvolk@threelakessd.k12.wi.us.
The Three Lakes Coaches Association was formed in 2015 as a way to unify the efforts of Three Lakes coaches and to provide ample opportunities for student athletes.
The banquet and hall of fame initiative serve as a way to raise funds to benefit student athletes and help promote athletics at Three Lakes School District.
All inductees to the hall of fame are honored with a plaque that hangs in the Three Lakes School.
The Three Lakes Athletic Hall of Fame is a great way to honor those student-athletes, coaches and teams who have helped make the school so successful in sports.
