Two competitive sporting events for athletes are coming to the North Woods.

The fourth annual Twin Triathlon will be held on and around North Twin Lake in Phelps this Saturday, Aug. 25, and the fifth annual Three Eagle Half-Marathon and 5K run will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, on the Three Eagle Trail between Eagle River and Three Lakes.

The triathlon includes a paddle leg around North Twin Lake, a bike route through a mixture of gravel and pavement surfaces, and the run course on a mixture of surfaces. Both the ride and run are on the Vista Lake Bike Routes through heavily forested lands.

Participants can choose to register as individuals, as an adult team consisting of three members all older than 16 years of age, or as a family team that includes at least one member younger than 16.

This race is ideal for families and participants of all skill levels. The cost of registration is $35 for individuals, $65 for a two-person team and $90 for teams. T-shirts are included in the price. Day-of-event registration is available, but does not guarantee a T-shirt.

For more information or to register, call the Phelps Chamber of Commerce at (715) 545-3800 or visit phelpswi.us/twin-triathlon.

Meanwhile, the point-to-point trail run along the Three Eagle Trail Oct. 13 will begin at two separate locations with a 9 a.m. race start.

The race will benefit the Three Eagle Trail and Three Lakes running programs.

Participants taking part in the half-marathon will be shuttled to Dairy Queen in Eagle River for the start. For those running the 5K course, they will be shuttled to the Northwoods Petroleum Museum on Wykoski Road, near the start line.

Within the final mile, participants will exit the trail by turning west on Anderson Street. Athletes will then turn north to follow the Mary Way loop before heading south on Batogowski Drive and finally ending at the Reiter Center in Three Lakes.

One-way bus shuttles will run from 8 to 8:30 a.m., departing from the race registration site at the Reiter Center in Three Lakes.

There will be an additional late bus at 8:40 a.m. for 5K participants only. Parking is available at Don Burnside Park in Three Lakes.

There is no shuttle service back to the start lines following the race. Registration for the 5K race is $20 before Sept. 1 and $30 starting Sept. 1.

The cost for the half-marathon is $40 before Sept. 1 and $50 starting Sept. 1 and includes a long-sleeved shirt and a half-marathon medal. The top three finishers in each group along with overall winners will also receive custom awards.

The race, on a crushed limestone trail, is chip-timed and results are provided on-site.
