As more and more precautionary measures are enacted throughout the state in an attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19, organizations, groups and businesses in the North Woods have announced cancellations of many programs, gatherings and events.

Some of these cancellations include:

• The national office of AARP has suspended all tax preparation until further notice. 

• Walter E. Olson Memorial Library, Land O’ Lakes Library and Plum Lake Public Library will all be closed until at least April 5. Olson and Plum Lake libraries are extending all checked out items until April 11 with no overdue fees, and patrons are asked not to return checked-out library items until the libraries reopen. 

• Eleanor Ellis Public Library in Phelps is closed until further notice but will extend due dates until April 10 and beyond, if necessary. The book drop will be open to receive returns and Wi-Fi will continue to be available in the library parking lot. Visit for updates or contact for more details.

• Edward U. Demmer Memorial Library in Three Lakes will offer the following limited services: self-service vestiĀ­bule, pickup of requested library items, and a magazine, puzzle and used book exchange. Services by appointment such as public computer internet access, and copying, scanning, and faxing will be offered. Public Wi-Fi continues to be available outside the building. • The Northwoods Children’s Museum is closed until further notice.

• The Headwaters Council for the Performing Arts show, scheduled for Saturday, April 4, is canceled. Those who purchased tickets should hold on to them in case the show is rescheduled. Updated information will be available online at

• The Scarlett O’Hatters have canceled the group luncheon planned April 2 at Gordo’s in Eagle River. All payments for lunch will be applied to the next luncheon. 

• The Eagle River Light & Water office will be temporarily closed to walk-in payments. There is a night deposit box located on the outside of the building, and those in need of a receipt should indicate if they’d like one mailed. • The April Second Sunday Folk Dance in Crystal Falls, Mich., has been canceled in keeping with appropriate social distancing at this time. The series plans to be ready to go for the 2020-’21 season starting Oct. 11.
