The Three Lakes-Phelps Bluejays football team didn’t waste anytime getting back in the win column following a tough Homecoming loss last week to Laona-Wabeno.

On the road in Suring this past Saturday, coach Tyler Maney’s offense continued to click as they racked-up 503 yards of total offense and controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in route to a lopsided 50-6 win.

Of those 503 yards from scrimmage, 348 of them came at the hands of Ashton Maney, who ran the ball 23 times for 191 yards and  five touchdowns while also hauling in five catches for 157 yards and two more touchdowns.

The Bluejays got off to a slow start, leading just 6-0 after the first quarter before crossing the goal line three more times in the second quarter to go up 26-0 at the break.

Two more scores in the third quarter put the game on ice as the Suring offense managed just one score midway through the third quarter.

In rare form, Three Lakes-Phelps aired it out a bit more against Suring as Bluejay quarterback Jared Kaufman was 14-of-22 for 248 yards and two touchdowns. Along with Maney’s five catches, Brandon Baumann added five for just shy of 80 yards while Josh Cogar caught two balls and McCain Graff had one reception.

On the ground, the Bluejays also saw Kaufman run for 54 yards on just four carries while Cogar ran it twice for one yard.

With the win, Three Lakes-Phelps all but clinched a spot to the 16-team playoff field which will be announced next week following the completion of the 8-man football regular season.

The Bluejays will wrap-up their regular season at home this Thursday, Oct. 14, when they host Wausaukee. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
