Colorama season is upon the North Woods, with the leaves changing color on the trees and area communities gearing up for their fall festivals.

Kicking off the festivities this Saturday, Sept. 14, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., will be Phelps Scarecrow Fest, providing attendees with a scarecrow contest, arts and crafts, games, wagon rides, raffles, food and, new for this year, the fur trader encampment. This event is presented by the Phelps Woman’s Club. For more information, call (715) 545-3002.

Also this Saturday, the SepTimber Ride on the Three Eagle Trail starts at 8 a.m. and features a 100K, 60K or 28-mile ride. Included is a wine tasting at Three Lakes Winery in Three Lakes, beer sampling and a brat picnic at Tribute Brewing Co. in Eagle River, and door prizes. The fourth annual Oktoberfest celebration, scheduled for Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Three Lakes, will offer a variety of entertainment including live music, various vendors and artisans, a live cultural dance troupe, fun competitions, and live firkin tapping at 11 a.m. Also available will be German beers and foods.

Finally, Boulder Junction will host its 27th annual Colorama arts and crafts fair at the Boulder Junction Community Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with wild game sandwiches and a farmers market. Call (715) 385-2400.

Sept. 21-22, Colorama Celebration — The celebration will be held throughout Land O’ Lakes with live music, wagon rides, crafts and sales, tug of war, apple bobbing, pie baking contest and pumpkin painting from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A Colorama ham and chicken dinner will be held at Gateway Lodge from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Sept. 28-29, Colorama Weekend — A Colorama weekend is planned in downtown Sayner from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Call (715) 542-3789.

Oct. 5-6, Cranberry Fest — Cranberry Fest will be held at the Vilas County Fairgrounds in Eagle River from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Oct. 11-13, Fall Art Tour — The self-guided Northwoods Fall Art Tour is planned throughout the area with stops at local galleries and studios from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Brochures and times will be available at chamber offices. Call (715) 385-3334.

Oct. 12, Pumpkin Fest — The Three Lakes Fire Department Auxiliary will sponsor this annual event at the high school starting at 9:30 a.m. It will include arts and crafts with more than 100 exhibitors, food and more. Call (715) 546-3344.
