Three Lakes High School graduate and current United State Army West Point cadet Emily Fink will begin her competitive duties today, Aug. 3 at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia in South America where she’ll take part in the hammer throw after winning the 2022 United States Track & Field Association U20 Outdoor Championships in June.

Fink will represent the United States who joins a list of 141 countries to be present at the games. In total 1,517 athletes are taking part in the events which got underway Monday at Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium.

The freshman comes off her rookie season at the collegiate level that saw her break school, facility, academy and conference records with West Point. She was named Patriot League Outdoor Women’s Rookie of the Meet and named to the First-Team All-Patriot League.

There are two qualification groups competing in the first day of the hammer throw, the first of which will take to the field at 9:11 a.m. local time in Cali. That is the similar time table to fans back in Wisconsin. The second qualification group is slotted to compete at 10:30 a.m.

If Fink advances she will compete in the event finals set for Friday, Aug. 5 at 3:11 p.m. central time.
