Many activities to provide fun for the whole family are planned for the annual Phelps Maple Syrup Fest scheduled this Saturday, April 10.
Events are planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. headquartered at the Phelps Chamber of Commerce office, located at 2429 Highway 17 in Phelps.
Returning this year are the ever-popular sugar bush tours which feature self-guided tours through four local sugar bushes. Attendees can stop by the Phelps Chamber of Commerce before heading out to the tours to pick up a tour map and tour punch card.
Those who visit all four sugar bushes and have their punch card stamped at each one will be entered into a raffle basket drawing.
This year’s event also will offer maple syrup classes as well as a beekeeping class.
Experienced producers in these subjects will share tricks of the trade at the Phelps Chamber of Commerce throughout the day. Classes will kick off at 10 a.m. with Beekeeping 101 with Don Crass of Crazy Joe’s Natural Products, followed by a maple syrup cooking demonstration with The Tipsy Housewife at 11 a.m.
After a break for lunch, visitors can attend a Maple Syrup Beginner 101 class with Theresa Baroun at 1 p.m., and then join Baroun again at 2 p.m. for a course on Maple Syrup Flavors and Grading.
While at the chamber, families can take part in various children’s activities such as maple taffy on the snow and tree tapping. Also on site will be the Maple Café bake sale, sponsored by Sunrise Lodge, where delicious maple treats will be sold.
To reserve a space at any of the classes listed above or for more information on the day’s activities, call (715) 545-3800 or stop at the Phelps chamber office prior to the event. To sign up during the event, stop by the information table in the Phelps Chamber of Commerce office area.
