Red O’Hearn will be joining other famous trapping experts at the 60th Annual Trappers Convention and Outdoor Expo scheduled for July 15 and 16 at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba, Mich.
O’Hearn is from Iowa where he started trapping as a youngster and continues to this day. He has trapped in many different states and consistently puts up unreal capture numbers with seasons of catches over 1000 raccoons, 350 beaver and 150 mink, which are common for him.
O’Hearn serves as Director for District 1 of the Iowa Trappers association and does his best to promote the sport.
He will be giving a demonstration focusing on mink and raccoon trapping when he takes the stage at this event.
Other famous trapping experts to present information or demonstrations at the event include Jeff Dunlap, Sarah Gomez, Ed Schneider, Jeff Hagerty, Bob Steinmetz, Ryan Koivu, Mark June and Al Dubord. A complete listing of presenters and their biographies can be found by going to uptrappers.com and selecting the convention page, as well as a link to the schedule of events which lists the times and dates for all the demos.
As with all presenters, says organizers, O’Hearn will stress legal, humane means of capture along with safety and sportsmanship in the field.
“We are pleased to have Red returning to Escanaba,” stated Randy Johnsen, member of U.P. Trappers. “He does a great job of teaching his methods, techniques and tips. Also he willingly engages the audience with dialog and Q and A. Anyone attending his demo is sure to learn a lot.”
Along with the educational sessions, this family-friendly event offers vendors and tailgaters selling a variety of items, including the latest outdoor sports gear, crafters, quilters, unique jewelry, fishing supplies.
Food will be available for purchase.
There will also be games, raffles, activities and more.
Admission is $10.00 for both days and children 12 and under are free.
Camping is available on the grounds.
