Northland Pines High School sent one team to the BASS State Tournament this last weekend in Madison.

The team from Northland Pines consisted of Harmon Marien and Nathan Krause, who will be seniors next year.

The tournament was held in conjunction with a BASS College Midwest Open tournament and the Wisconsin adult BASS Classic tournament as well.

After being on this body of water for the first time Friday during prefishing, the two were able to catch a five-fish limit Saturday with a total weight of 11.35 pounds, which put them in sixth place out of the 27 teams that attended the tournament. On Sunday the team caught their five-fish limit in the first 70 minutes and were able to cull multiple fish out throughout the day.

The team of Marien and Krause increased their daily total Sunday with a bag of 12.76 pounds. The two-day total of 24.11 pounds was good enough for a seventh-place finish.

The two fishermen said they learned a lot about the Madison Chain of Lakes and look forward to fishing in local tournaments put on by the Northland Pines bass fishing team this summer for the almost 20 students that are members of the high school team.
