RHINELANDER — Surrounded by family, friends and supporters, State Sen. Tom Tiffany (R-Minocqua) formally announced his candidacy to represent the 7th District in the United States House of Representatives.

Tiffany’s announcement comes on the heels of Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) saying he would be resigning from Congress at the end of September because he and his wife are expecting a child in late October who will have a heart condition.

Tiffany is the first North Woods candidate in the race for Duffy’s seat in Congress. He made the announcement at the Al-Gen Dinner Club in Rhinelander Tuesday morning.

“When I was elected to the state legislature, Wisconsin had serious problems: budget deficits, high unemployment, businesses fleeing our state and a deep pessimism,” said Tiffany. “I asked voters to put their trust in me to deliver results. With like-minded women and men in the legislature, we made Wisconsin a better place to live, to work and to raise a family. It wasn’t easy and tough choices had to be made.

“I am prepared to make those same tough decisions in Washington, D.C., for the people of northern and western Wisconsin. “I don’t plan to go to Washington looking for a fight, but I can guarantee I will never back down from one,” said Tiffany. “Now more than ever we need to stand up to preserve our freedoms and our bedrock values. As we all know, it’s a swamp out there and we need someone who won’t waver when it comes to doing what is right for Wisconsin.”

If elected to Congress, Tiffany said he is ready to back President Donald Trump.

“I’m running for Congress to be the ally President Trump needs to keep moving our country forward. He needs help to secure our borders, to stop the left’s obsessive march towards socialism, to protect our Second Amendment rights, to protect the unborn and to get the government off our backs so we can all prosper. He needs a proven conservative with a track record of getting things done,” said Tiffany. “I believe I am that ally.”

Tiffany was elected to the State Assembly in 2010 and has been elected to the State Senate since 2012.

“I am proud to announce my candidacy for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. I look forward to running a positive campaign and talking to voters all across the district. I know if they put their trust in me, I will deliver results for northern and western Wisconsin,” said Tiffany.
