The Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club in Eagle River recently crowned Three Lakes senior Kortnie Volk as the club’s Miss Sno-Eagle 2019-’20.

Volk said she loves being active and is involved in downhill skiing, waterskiing, cross-country skiing, hunting, trapshooting, running, playing basketball, and, of course, snowmobiling. Because of her love for athletics, she is involved in three different varsity sports, all while maintaining a high grade-point average.

In addition to her active life, she also is a member of the Three Lakes High School student council, which allows her to share her leadership and communication skills by working to lead activities for the student body and organize fundraisers for families in need.

She is also vice president of the National Business Honor Society. Through this organization she volunteers at “Pink Week” during which various fundraisers are held. All the proceeds benefit the Pink Ribbon Riders to help those affected by breast cancer.

Volk has held many various leadership roles, including being the president of her class as well as her downhill ski club, being a member of the National Honor Society, and heading up the junior prom committee at school.

She said that snowmobiling is one of the activities she and her family enjoy doing together. The love for snowmobiling was instilled in Volk when she received an Arctic Cat Kitty Cat for Christmas at age three. She and her family spend most winter weekends snowmobiling.

The importance of snowmobiling to the Volk family is evident as they allow snowmobile trails through their property and have done so since trails have been in existence in the North Woods.

It’s also a family tradition to attend the World Championship Snowmobile Derby in Eagle River, and Volk said some of her fondest memories are of watching Friday Night Thunder as a child.

Giving back to the community is a priority of Volk’s. She volunteers at the Three Lakes Fish and Wildlife Association’s annual basketball tournament and the annual kids free fishing day. She participates in Faith Lutheran Church’s highway cleanup program as well as volunteers with youth soccer, basketball, and the Three Eagle Track Club. She said she’s “looking for new ways to give back to the North Woods.”

As Miss Sno-Eagle, Volk will represent the Sno-Eagles at events throughout 2019 and 2020, some of which include the World Championship Snowmobile Derby, Derby Vintage Weekend, Groom to Ride raffle, the Fourth of July parade, and membership meetings.

She is also featured on the Sno-Eagles 2019-’20 trail map cover.

A $500 scholarship, donated by Boat Sport Marina in Eagle River, will be awarded upon completion of her Miss Sno-Eagle responsibilities. In addition, she will receive a custom embroidered snowmobile suit, also donated by Boat Sport.

Hair and make-up for the trail map photo was donated by Synergy Salon and Spa. TJ Gaffney Photography donated the map cover photo shoot.
