  • Northland Pines Montessori Learning Center in the Northland Pines School District recently received a $307,036 charter school grant for the 2018-’19 school year. 
    It was part of 10 Implementation Grants that were awarded by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) totaling $6,026,477.
    Northland Pines Montessori Learning Center, located in the St. Germain Elementary School, has been open and operating for the past three years, according to Tony Duffek, principal at the center.

  • The Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center, along with the Headwaters Chapter of Muskies Inc. and the Eagle River Guides Association, will host the 38th annual Eagle River Fishing Day for Kids from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Thursday, July 12.
    This free event is for children between the ages of 7 and 12 years old, according to Natalie Spiess, chamber events coordinator. Registration will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Vilas County Fairgrounds.

  • Adaptive water ski clinic set Friday
    Graceful Wakes and the Chain Skimmers Water Ski Show will present an Adaptive Water Ski Clinic this Friday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Lake Pleasant in Conover.
    Open to adults and children with disabilities age 6 and older, the event will allow participants to use a specially designed adaptive water ski to experience the thrill of water skiing with two trained side skiers next to them.
    Attendees and the public can then stay for a Cypress Gardens Water Ski Team Benefit Show July 13, at 6 p.m. on Lake Pleasant.

  • The public has an opportunity to submit comments on a proposal to open 35 miles of existing roads in the Northern Highland-American Legion (NHAL) State Forest to motorized access from Sept. 1 to the last day of the December four-day antlerless gun deer season to provide additional access for fall hunting opportunities.
    The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking comment on an “Implementation Plan for Motorized Access for Fall Hunting.” The public comment period opened Monday and will run through July 23.
