Bond set at $1 million for St. Germain man charged with intentional homicide

Posted

A cash bond was set yesterday at $1 million for James Johnson, St. Germain, who is allegedly involved in the murder of his sister, Kelly Johnson, and is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, with a use of a dangerous weapon modifier attached.

According to the criminal complaint, the crime occurred on or around Friday, March 21. A little after 10:30 p.m. Friday evening, the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a woman saying she found her sister on her front porch unresponsive, covered in blood from multiple stab wounds, feet bound by a yellow extension cord and wrapped in a blanket.

Stab wounds were found by officers across the victim’s back and lower left side. An autopsy done on Monday, March 24 in Madison noted approximately 30 stab wounds on the victim, along with lacerations on her hands and one side of her face.

As stated in the complaint, Johnson told officers that he stabbed his sister while she was sleeping after he claimed she drained his gas tank and bank account while he was hospitalized for two weeks. Johnson and the victim were sharing the residence with their sister.

Also, according to the complaint, a black Chevrolet Malibu, later identified as Johnson’s, was heard leaving the residence two hours before police arrived.

He was detained after the car drove by a hotel where officers were conducting interviews and parked behind the building next to dumpsters.

A carving knife, gloves and extension cords were found in Johnson’s possession.

Another hearing is scheduled in Vilas County Circuit Court on Monday, March 31, at 9:45 a.m.
