A great tree has fallen from the Tienhaara Family. Like the aspen whose roots spread far and wide and create new generations of life, Charles ‘Chuck’ Tienhaara of Eagle River, Wis., has left this life on earth and moved to his eternal home on April 14, 2023.
Charles Leo Tienhaara was born on Feb. 12, 1947, to Leo and Lois Tienhaara of Conover, Wis.
He married Sandra (Rogers) Tienhaara, the daughter of Bud and Anna Rogers, on Dec. 16, 1967.
Chuck and Sandy raised three children who blessed and extended the roots of the family with seven grandchildren as well as their first great-granddaughter.
Chuck was the Vanhempi, respected eldest, in Finnish and was referred to as the “Village Elder” by his brothers, Don, Jim and Roger.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Lois; his beloved wife’s parents, Bud and Anna; his brother, Dave; brother-in-law, Ron; as well as their first grandson, Michael Krick; and granddaughter Grace Tienhaara.
Chuck and Sandy’s seven grandchildren extended roots from the Tienhaara tree as thus: Michael, Ellisa, MaryBeth, Grace, Alec, Ashley, Jarrett, Demetria and great-granddaughter Sadie.
Chuck proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He instilled patriotism into his family and all three of his children followed his example, and served in the armed forces.
Upon returning to Eagle River, he worked the next 50 years in the community and became renowned for carpentry and woodworking skills.
After retiring from carpentry, he began exploring the country with his beloved navigator, Sandy. They adventured across the country to make memories with great friends and family.
Chuck will be remembered by family and friends for his love of the outdoors, most of all listening to his stories around the campfire. His stories were always filled with wit and humor that made you laugh, and had important life lessons. His words of wisdom will be treasured as the Tienhaara roots continue to spread.
Chuck's philosophy was to have pride in what you choose to do. In whatever endeavor you undertake, make it yours, and make it your best.
He was a faithful member of the Community Bible Church, and lifetime member of the VFW. He leaves behind a legacy of love for God, country and family and will be deeply missed by all.
Funeral service for Chuck will be held on May 12 at 11 a.m. at the Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home, with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial with Military Honors immediately following at Hildegard Cemetery in Conover. Join his family for a reception at the VFW Post in Eagle River to share stories.
