Della Lorraine Bacon

Della Lorraine Bacon (née Kalbes), a resident of Clearwater Lake, died Monday, April 24, 2023, at Cumberland Heights in Rhinelander. She was 92. 

Mrs. Bacon was born Feb. 2, 1931, in Bagley to Albert and Mary (née Grosse) Kalbes. 

She graduated from Emmanuel Missionary College in 1951 and was assigned to teach at the Seventh Day Adventist School in Clearwater Lake. She also became a member of the church there where she was a member of its Dorcas Society, and the Pine and Plow Editor Committee.

She married her husband, Carl Bacon, Sr., Oct. 19, 1952, in Clearwater Lake. 

Mrs. Bacon enjoyed making sauerkraut, crocheting, knitting and patchwork. She made many quilts and blankets for American Legion programs, hospitals and homes.  

Mrs. Bacon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl, in 2014; and two sisters, Marion Leisner and Mildred Johnson. 

She is survived by five sons, Jeffrey (Barbara) of Denton, Texas, Bruce of Mercer, Randy (Lisa), Stevan, Carl “Corky” (Brenda), and David (Cynthia), all of Clearwater Lake; one brother, James Kalbes of Youngstown, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other family. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 12, at 11 a.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Clearwater Lake. Visitation will be Thursday, May 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
