Warehouse Arts Center announces public art events

Posted

The Warehouse Community Arts Center in downtown Eagle River has recently announced its lineup of upcoming public classes and events, available for all ages.

Currently, the Artist Spotlight public art exhibit by photographer Scott Pearson is up until the end of March. View his work of North Woods animals, sunsets, and the Northern Lights in the front gallery during front desk hours of Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Then, in the month of April, the Artist Spotlight area in the front gallery room will be taken over by a community “Poet-tree” celebrating April’s National Poetry Month distinction. Come help create it or just come to read. Shop the rest of the Warehouse gallery, with ceramics, paintings, photography, cards and more from over 15 local artists.

Open Mic Lab is traditionally the first Friday of the month, and April is no exception, with the Friday, April 4, event running 7 - 9 p.m. This free public art event is a favorite; a night of creative expression with Todd Schroeckenthaler hosting. The Inspiration Bar will be open and this family-friendly event is open to the public.

The Warehouse, in conjunction with the Olson Library, will celebrate National Poetry Month with a Poetry Slam on Friday, April 18, from 6 - 8 p.m. Read any form of writing; poetry, fiction, short stories, etc., of your work or a favorite, or come sit and enjoy as an audience member. Drop in or sign up on the Warehouse’s website to register performance spots for Open Mic and Poetry Slam.

The Warehouse also welcomes kids to celebrate Earth Day. Visit the Warehouse anytime on Tuesday, April 22, from 3 - 6 p.m. for some free crafting. Make a flower bomb to grow flowers in the spring and create some pollinator art. Also, receive a voucher for a free tree seedling from Trees for Tomorrow in May.

A variety of arts and ceramics classes are offered at the Warehouse. Lifelong Learning offers diverse classes in the arts, including three different mediums of painting classes, yoga and yoga fusion, and woodworking, with programming expanding to a Sip and Weave basket weaving class, with an added drink from the Inspiration Bar. Ceramics classes are both offered in the handbuilding or wheel throwing options, with single-day and multiple weeks options available.

Try the pottery wheel in an afternoon session, or dive deep into the practice and take a full month class with Open Studio access. Visit the Warehouse website to see the full schedule or to register.

Also offered at the Warehouse are free art community groups in watercolor painting, photography, and music.

Watercolor Group is a free weekly drop-in group led by Steve Opfer. They meet on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. and paint inspired by a weekly theme.

The Northwoods Photo Club is a free photography group that meets the second Wednesday of every month (April 9) discussing a wide range of photographic topics. The Northwoods Ukers practice every Friday afternoon from 1:30 - 3 p.m. and are always welcoming to new members. The Woodland Strings is an orchestra group that meets Tuesday evenings.
