Posted

Andrew “Andy” An‐ thony Schaffer, born April 23, 1947, in Apple‐ ton, WI to Anthony “Tony” John Schaffer and Eulalia “Lolly” Louise Schaffer (Fre‐ und), passed away unex‐ pectedly at home on No‐ vember 30, 2024. He is survived by wife, Nancy (Mayo); daughter, Kendra; son, Drew; sis‐ ter, Judy; nieces and nephews, and his beloved cats, Thelma and Louise. Andy taught Biology at Northland Pines High School for 32 years, from 1971 until his retirement in 2003. He was loved and respected by his stu‐ dents, and he genuinely cared about their education and well-being. “Blue, black, green, no red, no lead. I catch you cheating…” He was also a boys' basket‐ ball coach for several years. He was a graduate of UW-Stevens Point, majoring in Biology. In 1994 he was honored by the Biology faculty at UWSP as High School Biology Teacher of the year. In his free time, Andy was an avid outdoorsman. He spent the summers fishing locally or on Lake Superior, passing the autumns patiently waiting for the perfect buck, ice fishing for walleyes at home and sturgeon spearing on Lake Winnebago in the winter, and then preparing for another big outdoor season in the spring. He loved to take drives in the Nicolet National Forest, eyes on the lookout for wildlife. He was also quite the woodworker, spending much of his retirement tinkering with projects in his workshop, including building many duck decoys. Andy also tended to his apple orchard, Lakeview Orchard, spending time pruning, watering and har‐ vesting. We love you and miss you. May you rest in peace, dear Andy. Catch the big fish. Shoot hoops all day. Keep hunting for another trophy buck. And continue to answer the phone with “Andy’s Bar, Grill, Garage, and Bait Shop.” A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home, Eagle River. Online condolences may be expressed at gaffney-busha.com
