Donations are ramping up and registration is still open for the upcoming Battle on St. Germain Lakes fishing tournament set for Saturday, Jan. 17, sponsored by the Northwoods Muskies Inc.
With more than $28,000 in prizes available for contestants, anglers will be able to fish Plum, Big St. Germain, Little St. Germain, Lost, Found, Pickerel, Rainbow Flowage, and Big and Little Arbor Vitae lakes.
Last year’s event drew 200 anglers, and organizer Jim Lund said his goal is to attract both local fishermen as well as those from around the state.
Prizes will be awarded in seven species categories: largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, bluegill, crappie and perch. Details on minimum sizes for each category are available on the FishDonkey app, where participants must sign up for the tournament.
The tournament will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with games, raffles and food starting at 5 p.m. at the St. Germain Community Center, located at 545 Highway 155.
The first 80 youths younger than age 16 to sign up via the FishDonkey app will receive a bucket with more than $70 of tackle. Lund asks those signing up to type “child” after their name in order to determine correct numbers for baskets.
To take part in the tournament, anglers first catch a fish of qualifying length (information available on FishDonkey app), then register the fish on the app. Anglers then bring their qualifying tickets to the awards ceremony where tickets will be used to draw prizes.
Doors open at the community center at 5 p.m., where attendees can enjoy brats, burgers and chili, and a drink. The main raffle starts at 7 p.m. sharp, but there will be other raffles taking place before then.
For more information, call Lund at 920-948-5706 or follow Battle on St. Germain Lakes on Facebook.
