Bats were on fire from the jump for the Three Lakes-Phelps in a 14-4 victory over the visiting Niagara Badgers in five innings in Three Lakes Tuesday night. The Bluejays racked up 14 hits on the night.
Sophomore Malia Szews got the first hit of the night with a single with one out in the first inning. She went on to steal second base and was driven in on a single by sophomore Bella Kowalkowski in the next at-bat. Senior Kassidy Williams kept things going offensively with an RBI-double to right-center field to make it 2-0 after the first inning. Szews settled into her routine and pitched another scoreless inning in the top half of the second. Three Lakes-Phelps broke the game open in the second with a seven-spot in the frame. Kowalkowski grabbed her second and third RBI of the night with another single to make it a 4-0 game. Williams lasered another ball deep into the outfield to score two with her stand-up triple. That put the score to 6-0. The Jays scored three more runs in the second to move the lead to 9-0 after two. It wasn’t until the top of the third where Niagara scored its first runs of the game, but the Jays struck right back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning.
The Badgers crossed two runs in the fifth to make it an 11-4 game before Three Lakes-Phelps scored three runs to finish the game up 14-4 after the 10-run rule. Three Lakes-Phelps moved to 3-2 overall on the young season.
