The Boulder Junction Shooting Range is offering a traditional hunter safety course in July. The course will be offered in four sessions: Sunday, July 12; Wednesday, July 15; and Friday, July 17, from 5 to 8 p.m.; and Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There is no internet component in this course and students are expected to attend all four sessions which will involve hands-on activities with firearms, as well as a discussion of important safety issues. The Saturday session will include review of the material as well as the written exam and Field Test.
In the interest of giving each student the attention they need, enrollment is limited so those who would like to attend should sign up as soon as possible. There is no official minimum age, but because of the reading level required it is recommended that students be 12 or older.
Interested students can sign up for the course on the DNR Go Wild site. They will need their DNR Customer Number. If they don’t have one, they can obtain one by contacting the DNR at 1-886-936-7463. Preregistration is required to take part in the course; walk-ins will not be allowed.
The class requires a $10 fee that should be paid by cash or check on the first meeting of the class. Checks can be made out to the Boulder Junction Shooting Range.
The Boulder Junction Shooting Range is located at 10449 Nebish Lake Road. Nebish Lake Road is off Highway M, 5.6 miles north of Highway 51 and 4.3 miles south of Boulder Junction. It is east of DNR Trout Lake Forestry Headquarters.
