The Save the Chief committee announced that the iconic statue has been repaired and the painting is complete. The statue was removed from its pedestal last May for fiberglass repair and other restorations.
The committee has been diligent in fundraising to pay for the revamping. The goal of the committee was $25,000 to pay for the repairs, and possibly landscape the area around the statue’s home.
Although this stage of the project is complete, the statue will not be reinstalled until the spring of 2025 so that a dedication event can take place.
He will be stored at Advantage Restoration, Minocqua, until the unveiling party.
The committee sold commemorative T-shirts to help with fundraising. The remaining T-shirts will be available for sale on their Facebook page. Search for Save Chief St. Germain.
Fundraising will continue through the winter and spring; over $20,000 has already been raised. The committee would like to create a monetary savings fund for future maintenance on the statue.
