The Union Congregational Church in Three Lakes is inviting the public to a community wide old-fashioned Christmas Hymn Fest on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m.
The Hymn Fest is part of the “Come Christians, Join to Sing” outreach ministry of Union and features the histories of some of the Church’s hymns with the audience.
“Our hope is to replicate some of those early Christmas hymn instrumentations,” stated Valeri Snedden, one of the organizers.
Musicians taking part in this event are Rebecca Mode, violinist; Karen Hassey on the accordion and ukulele; Kristin DeWolfe, flutist; Ed Brouch, guitarist; and vocalist Marcy Karianjahi from Nairobi, Kenya.
Mode is a degreed violin instructor from Rhinelander and plays first violin with the Woodland Strings.
Hassey is a retired public high school music and choral instructor with extensive experience playing in polka and other bands, including the famed Skip Wagner Band. She is the founder of the Northwoods Ukers and currently plays violin and accordion with the Woodland Strings.
The Hymn Fest will be led by Don Meeder, Three Lakes Lions Club President.
A free will offering will be taken to benefit the church and the Salvation Army.
Light refreshments will be served after the program.
