The Eagle River Prep League (13u) baseball team closed its 2025 season last week and finished with a 6-5 record despite losses to a pair of the league’s strongest teams to end the season. The senior team continued its season with a dominating 17-2 win over Park Falls.
Last Monday, the 13u squad fell at home 27-8 to Lakeland (1) as they collected eight hits and struck out three times.
“But most costly were the seven errors we committed,” stated coach Brian Margelofsky. “Misplayed fly balls and overthrows led to eight extra unearned runs and our pitchers had to throw more pitches.”
Lakeland scored the 27 runs on 17 hits and nine walks in addition to those errors.
Mason Meier and Johnny Weiberg each had a double for the Eagles.
The Eagle River Prep team was right back at it last Wednesday with a road trip to Rhinelander, where they lost 15-5 and only managed four hits in 28 at-bats.
“Hunter Posielenzny did a nice job pitching for us in the early innings, and we played good defense in allowing only one run,” noted coach Margelofsky. “But the Hodags opened things up with eight runs in the third inning on four hits and four walks, then strung together three walks and four hits in the fourth to score five more runs.”
Margelofsky reflected on the season and praised his players for the summer they had.
“If these boys stay focused and keep improving on the fundamentals of the game, they can have both individual and team success,” he said.
Senior team
The Eagle River Senior League (16u) Babe Ruth baseball team played one game last week, hosting Park Falls July 8.
The Eagles wasted no time in establishing control of the game, scoring 10 runs in the first inning on the way to a 17-2 victory.
The offense was led by Gage Posielenzny, who had three hits and two runs batted in (RBI). Chayce Jellen had two hits and two RBI.
Chase Seeger had a double and two RBI, while Piers Jernigan drove in two runs.
The Senior League team was scheduled to play Rhinelander and Phillips this past Monday and Tuesday.
The online schedule has them playing two games at Tomahawk on Friday, July 18, at 5 and 7 p.m.
