Early morning structure fire in Arbor Vitae deemed total loss

Vilas County deputies responded to a reported structure fire at approximately 2:30 a.m. the morning of Aug. 26 near Bethel Drive in Arbor Vitae. Although there were no injuries, the structure was considered a total loss.

According to a press release issued by the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, upon arrival by deputies, a structure fire was observed at the address of 1338 Bethel Dr. It was reported there could possibly be a person trapped in the fire.

Multiple area fire departments responded to the scene, including Arbor Vitae, St. Germain, Boulder Junction, Plum Lake, and Manitowish Waters. Also responding were St. Germain and Plum Lake ambulances, Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigations, and Vilas County Sheriff.

Firefighters cleared the structure and confirmed there were no people inside the structure. Upon further investigation, it was determined the fire was started in the kitchen area of the residence but the cause is still unknown.
