There was plenty of action early this week between the Northland Pines and Three Lakes varsity winter teams, with the Three Lakes boys and girls basketball teams playing two games and two days. The Northland Pines girls and boys hockey teams, along with the boys basketball team, each played one game. Here are the results for all of those games.

Pines girls hockey: Pines 1, Central Wisconsin 3

Central Wisconsin put the first two goals on the board in the first period, before Pines cut the deficit to one in the second on a goal from Ayla Shepherdson. The score remained 2-1 heading into the third period before the Storm scored once more. Pines fired 17 shots on net. Goaltender Lucy Nowak made 42 saves on 45 shots. Pines moved to 3-9-1 on the season and dropped to 1-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.

Pines boys basketball: Pines 69, Wausau East 61

Pines picked up a road non-conference victory Tuesday night. The Eagles improved to 9-5 overall and remained in third place in the GNC at 4-3.

Pines boys hockey: Pines 2, Mosinee 4

After the Eagles scored a last-second win over Mosinee earlier this season, Mosinee got its revenge. The Indians led 1-0 after one and scored an early second-period goal to double the lead. Oliver DePuydt scored late in the second period to cut the deficit to 2-1. Mosinee got one back to take a 3-1 lead into the final period. A split in goals in the third kept Mosinee ahead to claim the victory. The Eagles dropped to 13-3 overall and 6-2 in the GNC.

Three Lakes boys basketball: Three Lakes 73, Phillips 58; White Lake 48, Three Lakes 79

The Three Lakes boys basketball team dominated its early-week non-con schedule, as the team exploded for 152 points in two games. Three Lakes moved back to 6-6 overall and remained in second place in the NLC at 2-1.

Three Lakes-Phelps girls basketball: Niagara 56, Three Lakes-Phelps 60; Three Lakes-Phelps 73, Elcho 24

The Lady Jays started a little slower on the home floor of Niagara, as the team started in an 8-17 deficit early on, but battled to make it a 23-26 game before getting back down nine points late in the half.

A second push pushed the deficit back down to four at the half, as Three Lakes-Phelps trailed 34-30 at the break. The Jays went on to outscore the Badgers 30-22 in the second half, which was ignited by a 12-0 run to grab a 42-34 lead out of the break. Senior Paige Brafford scored all 16 points in the second half to aid the Jays’ comeback. Sophomore Malia Szews led the team in scoring with 18 points.

The team was able to work on a few offensive and defensive sets in their game Tuesday night at Elcho, as the Bluejays cruised to a commanding victory. Three Lakes-Phelps improved to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the NLC, which puts them in third place behind Laona-Wabeno and Florence.
