Fiber art exhibit, book sale planned during Cranberry Fest

Posted

Visitors to Eagle River’s annual Cranberry Fest will have the opportunity to explore more than cranberries this weekend, with a fiber art exhibit and a used book sale among the activities planned in conjunction with the festival.

The Lake Country Weavers and Fiber Artists Guild will host its annual exhibit and sale Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Christ, 105 N. First St. in Eagle River. Admission is free.

The church is located at the corner of First and Division streets. The Cranberry Fest shuttle bus to and from the fairgrounds will stop at the church at regular intervals Saturday only.

Visitors can watch demonstrations of spinning, knitting and crocheting, including how wool is transformed into colorful yarn, sometimes incorporating beads. Guild members will be available to answer questions about their crafts.

The exhibit and sale will showcase the diverse talents of guild members, with items including handwoven rugs, table runners, mohair and wool mittens, scarves, handspun yarn, and wool-felted hats and clogs.

The guild supports fiber artists throughout the Northwoods, with members from communities including Land O’ Lakes, Hazelhurst, Manitowish Waters and Three Lakes. Members meet monthly at one another’s homes to share skills, further their education and enjoy camaraderie.
