The Land O’ Lakes Fire and EMS Department was trained by Matt Tormalen, a flight paramedic from Life Link III in Rhinelander, on the importance of landing zone procedures and safety on Sunday, Dec. 15.
This comes after Land O’ Lakes recently prepared new landing sites to speed up extractions of patients.
The program provided insight into the personnel, aircraft, procedures and workings of Life Link III.
With fully equipped and staffed hospitals being far afield in the North Woods and Upper Peninsula, flights by aircraft for serious accidents and other incidents are paramount in saving lives.
With just one call to the Life Link III communications center by first responders, they can arrange bedside-to-bedside transport for their patients.
Within minutes, Life Link III crews can be en route. Interventions are performed in the aircraft, when possible, to minimize the time before the patient reaches definitive care.
The practical part of Sunday’s program, with a live helicopter, could not take place due to inclement weather. This is being rescheduled.
