Flute Therapy trio to perform at Union Congregational Church

Posted

Union Congregational Church will host Flute Therapy, a trio of flutists from the Rhinelander area, on Monday, Nov. 25, at 6:30 p.m., as part of its new Psalm 150 Project.
The trio, consisting of Marilyn Pekol, Heather Goldberg, and Marilyn Larsen, are all members of the Silver Flutes of the Northwoods and the Rhinelander Community Band. Together, they bring a wide and varied background of musical experience to the table that includes the Northwoods Jazz Group, The Milwaukee Police Band, and area polka and dance bands.
Flute Therapy was formed in April of 2023 to explore music together, to challenge each other musically, and to laugh.
“We began to refer to our sessions as ‘flute therapy,’” stated Larsen.
Their repertoire includes classical, novelty, pop and traditional numbers, including ’Tis the Last Rose of Summer by John Stevenson and Struttin’ With Silver by Ricky Lombardo.

The Psalm 150 Project, inspired by the biblical psalm encouraging praise through music and dance, offers local musicians a venue to honor God through various genres.
“Our goal is to provide that venue for local musicians to honor God with a variety of secular and religious genres. We are pleased to present Flute Therapy as our 3rd Psalm 150 Project event,” said one of the organizers.
Admission is free, with a free-will offering benefiting the Demmer Memorial Library, in recognition of the church’s historical role in hosting the library from 1949-1956.
