Goede dominates Dash for Cash, gets pole for Sunday’s WC race

Posted

As the lights went on and the temperatures dropped, Friday Night Lightning racing action lit up the World Championship Derby Complex last night, which included New Germany, Minn rider Matt Goede grabbing the pole position for Sunday’s World Championship race after dominating the Dash For Cash 8-lap final on his Super Mod 440.

Goede won the final by nearly seven seconds, and pretty much from the opening green flag held a half to full straightaway lead.

His best lap came on the opening lap, where he clocked a 17.959 time. He then turned laps six, seven and eight in 18.3 seconds as he was on autopilot to that point.

The rest of the field was laid out like this: the No. 31 of Will Garceau finished second, the 52X of Curtis Peterson took third, No. 481 Lucas Nest grabbed fourth, No. 4 Jaime Bourgeois slid into fifth, the No. 57 Eric Prachar was sixth, Jeffrey Stoxen was seventh and Turner Childs took eighth. Joe Bourgeois and Marc Donahue were scratches for the race.

Goede was fast all night, and it was a question of who would catch him. He turned a 17.613 lap time on his second of three laps in his heat win and had a 17.983 time in a semifinal win. A big turning point in the night was defending Vintage Champion Sabrina Blanchet pulling off the track right off the start line and needing a tow back to the paddock area during her semifinal race in the Dash for Cash. She won the first heat out on the night and had the closest time to Goede during the heats at 18.048.

The rest of the front row (10 riders) will be sorted out during qualifying later today between 2 and 3 p.m.

A last-chance qualifier will be run on Sunday at noon, with the top two finishers getting the start on the back row in the World Championship.
