Goede leads full race en route to sixth Vintage Championship

The 25th running of the Vintage World Championships at the World Championship Derby Complex wrapped up Sunday afternoon with Minnesota rider Matt Goede piloting his No. 28 Polaris to a sixth Vintage World Championship on the famed Eagle River Derby Track.

Goede was fast all weekend on his Super Mod 440 sled and had the preferred line going into the World Championship Sunday afternoon as the man to beat. Quebec driver Sabrina Blanchet gave Goede a run for his money for most of the race, as she rode her No. 79 to the runner-up spot after winning her second championship in 2025. The 52x of Curtis Peterson rounded out the podium in third place. “We got it done today. Credit to Sabrina. I felt like she was somewhat one me, so I was definitely glad to see the white flag,” said Goede after the win. “This sled isn’t super easy to drive, and I was kind of struggling at the end a little bit, but we were able to hang on.”

The rest of the field finished like this: No. 31 Will Garceau, No. 57 Eric Prachar, No. 27 Spencer Landry and No. 5M Gavin Mlaskoch finished fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh in the big race. No. 715 Jeffery Stoxen, No. 47 Joseph Burns, and No. 77 Bryce Trzesniak went eighth, ninth and 10th, while No. 05 Shawn Berry rounded out the field in 11th. The No. 481 sled of Lucas Nast shut down just after the green flag and was forced to leave the race.

Goede chose the far inside line off the start line and led the field into turns one and two as Blanchet remained within striking distance on the opening lap. After a few laps around, Goede opened up a little bit of a lead.

His best lap came in the opening half-mile, where he posted a time of 18.060. Blanchet had her best lap come in the second, where she had an 18.242 time to try and keep up with Goede. She finished just over a second behind the winner as both riders were at least six seconds clear of the rest of the field.

Outside of the red flag to start the race due to Nast’s sled, it was a green flag for all 10 laps, as most sleds kept their position. Stoxen started in the back row and moved his way up to eighth as the biggest gain in position.

Goede will now switch midsets and work to pilot his Formula III and Champ 440 sleds to victory at the 63rd World Championship Snowmobile Derby this weekend.
