Unofficial results of the spring election have been tallied, with electors deciding who will represent them at the county, town and school board levels.
Also on the April 7 ballot was a statewide Wisconsin Supreme Court race, which was won by democratic-backed candidate Chris Taylor.
In the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, Justice Rebecca Bradley decided against seeking another 10-year term, opening up her seat on the court this election cycle.
A total of 6,596 votes were cast in Vilas County in the race, with Chris Taylor receiving 3,311 to Maria Lazar’s 3,277. Eight scattering votes were also recorded. In Oneida, Taylor defeated Lazar 5,684 to 4,776.
On a state level, Associated Press reported that Taylor ultimately received 60.1% of the vote to Lazar’s 39.8%.
With the statewide win, Taylor grew the liberal majority on the supreme court to 5-2. Their majority is now guaranteed until at least 2030.
In the Vilas County Board of Supervisors races, incumbent Robert Hanson, District 9 Town of Arbor Vitae, Ward 1 and Lac du Flambeau, Wards 6 and 7, narrowly retained his seat over challenger Stephen Bunda by a vote of 147-121.
Daniel Kramer defeated write-in candidate Ann Carlson 184 to 40 to remain as supervisor for District 21, Town of Lincoln, Wards 2 and 3.
Michael Rayala ran unopposed for District 7, Town of Arbor Vitae, Wards 5 and 6, after Arleen Harsvick filed for noncandidacy. No candidates filed for two other seats — District 1, Town of Land O’ Lakes, Ward 1 and Town of Plum Lake, Ward 1 and District 14, Town of Conover, Ward 1 and Town of Lincoln, Ward 1 — but write-in candidates took those seats. For District 1, Phil Desautes received 30 votes, with 27 “scattering” votes recorded. In District 14, Jane Van Wormer received 23 votes, with 12 scattering votes recorded.
Others who ran unopposed and retained their existing seats included: Richard Logan, District 2, Town of Presque Isle, Ward 1 and Town of Winchester, Ward 1; Thomas Petrusky, District 3, Town of Boulder Junction, Ward 1 and Town of Lac du Flambeau, Ward 1 and Town of Manitowish Waters, Ward 1; Michael MacKenzie, District 4, Town of Boulder Junction, Ward 2 and Town of Presque Isle, Ward 2; Ann Konopacky, District 5, Town of Arbor Vitae, Wards 2 and 7; Leah Trojan, District 6, Town of Arbor Vitae, Wards 3 and 4; Tom Maulson, District 8, Town of Lac du Flambeau, Wards 2 and 3; Joseph Wildcat, Sr., District 10, Town of Lac du Flambeau, Wards 4 and 5; Marvin A. Seats with no opposition in our readership area that retained their seats for the Oneida County Board of Supervisors include: Robert Briggs, District 7, Enterprise, Schoepke, Monico, Piehl, Three Lakes Ward 2; Daniel Hess, District 10, Newbold Wards 3 and 4; Collette Sorgel, District 13, Three Lakes Wards 1 and 3; Scott Holewinski, District 14, Sugar Camp Wards 1 and 2; and Lenore Lopez, District 15, Newbold Wards 1 and 2 and Lake Tomahawk Ward 1.
