Most library users head directly to fiction when browsing for a new read, but how about checking out all that the nonfiction section has to offer? The New Year is a great time to start fresh and learn something new. The Land O’ Lakes Library has books with everything from watercolor painting or knitting lessons, to lessons on meditation or spirituality. There are books that teach how and where to explore nature, and books following someone else’s epic adventures through different wildernesses. Whether learning happens in a step-by-step lesson format, or through the stories of historical figures and everyday heroes, the library has a book to fit every interest.
There are some new nonfiction books to help with a fresh start in the New Year: “How to Winter: Harness Your Mindset to Thrive on Cold, Dark, or Difficult Days” by Kari Leibowitz, “Herbal Medicine for Modern Life: Traditional Folk Remedies for Everyday Health and Well-Being” by Ruth Blanding, “Meditations for Mortals: Four Weeks to Embrace Your Limitations and Make Time for What Counts” by Oliver Burkeman, “Overcoming Anxiety and Depression: Practical Strategies for Managing Symptoms, Embracing Well-Being, Achieving Long-Term Holistic Health” by Lillyin Love, and “Be BOLD Today: Unleash Your Potential, Master Your Mindset, and Achieve Success” by Leigh Burgess.
Qigong and Balance classes, taught by Dottie Reeder, are offered on Fridays from 9 to 10 a.m. Qigong is free of charge and all are welcome.
