Larry Whitney, age 83, a resident of Henderson, KY passed away on March 14th at Aspirus Riverside Hospital Wisconsin Rapids from cancer.
Larry was born on May 20th, 1942 in Dearborn, MI to Robert Howe Whitney and Delores (Wilson) Whitney. He attended Wauconda High School where he excelled in wrestling. When his father's career forced his family to move to Ontario, Larry enrolled with his parents' blessing into the US Marine Corp on his 17th birthday, and was bestowed the honor of cutting the cake on the Marine Corps birthday, where the youngest and oldest active Marines perform the ceremonial duties.
After the Marine Corp, Larry attended Ohio State University; then moved to Wisconsin and married Mary (Gaffney) Whitney and established himself in the insurance business in Eagle River. After 30 years, he moved to St. Paul MN and became the top salesperson in the country for the Hertz Corporation.
Larry retired to Panama City Beach, FL where he lived for 10 years before moving to Henderson KY to be closer to his children. Even at 83 years old, he remained extremely active, golfing, and weight lifting.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Beverly. He is survived by his brother Guy, former spouse Mary and their children Lori, Robert, and Matthew, and the many dear friends he made everywhere he lived.
