TNR isn’t for the birds
Dear Editor:
Studies show that one of the biggest sources of mortality for our wild birds is predation by domestic cats.
Wind farms are constantly being branded as bird killers. High rises are vilified for killing birds.
Cats kill wildlife to a greater degree, but that’s okay? It doesn’t matter if they are “feral” or domestic “family” cats that are allowed to roam free. Why isn’t there concern for the birds, and I might add, rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks?
You solve an uncontrolled breeding issue, but you put the killers back into the outdoors.
These homeless cats need to be held, offered for adoption and if not adopted, euthanized, not cut loose on
the wild birds and animals.
In fact, why are cats not required to be licensed and prove rabies vaccination like dogs? It is well past time to stop letting cats roam the countryside.
