Multiple locals win feature races at Eagle River Speedway Tuesday

Last Tuesday night featured two local drivers winning feature races in their respective classes as action at the Eagle River Speedway heats up for the summer. Eagle River’s Jason Zdroik and Sugar Camp’s Jason Eisel each won the USRA late model feature and the street stock feature. 

Zdroik jumped underneath Jeff Thomas, another Eagle River driver, for the lead with three laps left in the late model main. Thomas jumped to the front from the pole position and led the field with Zdroik in second up to a lap nine caution. On the next restart, both drivers were door-to-door over the next several laps before Zdroik took the lead in lap 17 of 20. In street stock action, Eisel captured the lead with seven circuits to go to claim victory as the defending track champion from last year. 

In other racing action, Wakefield, Mich. driver George Dalbeck passed the leader after he got stuck behind lap traffic to eventually win the B-Mod feature. "Hot Rod" Snellenberger won his 230th career IMCA stock car race after driving from ninth to first over the span of the race. Pure stocks ran a pair of features, one as a makeup from opening night that had been rained out. Phillips' Devin Fries and Tomahawk's Trevor Schumann each picked up a victory. Cornell, Mich. driver Ethan Manninen swept action in the 600 micro sprints, and Carter Aho won the pro 300 feature, while Eagle River’s Myia Ewert picked up the semi-pro 300 micro sprint feature. 

Racing will be back next Tuesday, June 16, at 7 p.m. A flag day celebration will also include an on-track autograph session. Kids in attendance will receive a free checkered flag.
